2011 Ram High Output Boasts 800 Foot Pounds of Torque
In the heavy duty truck market, torque talks. Having been in an escalating war for the past few years, Dodge has just dropped the latest bomb with the announcement that the 2011 Ram Heavy Duty High Output will dredge no less than 800 foot pounds of torque from within the annals of its 6.7-litre turbodiesel Cummins powerplant. Giving the truck the ability to haul 22,700 pounds and upping its total GVWR to an almost stupid 30,000 pounds, Chrysler also thought to take care of the decelerative chores as well and has fitted it with massive 14.7” front brakes and 14.09” rear brakes- the largest ever fitted to a pickup truck. In case that’s not enough though, the truck also wears the strongest exhaust brake ever fitted to a production pickup truck, just for those long, winding downhill stretches of highway.
But, perhaps most interesting is the news that this upgrade will not adversely affect the truck’s overall reliability, with Dodge saying that the block should go for at least 350,000 miles before requiring any major work. Additionally, the truck manages to pass emissions tests without the use of the exhaust fluid, unlike Ford and Chevy, meaning that this is one impressive engine.
